Member tune-up finds a worn anode
Recently retired and very organized. Has her paperwork ready and expects things done exactly as promised.
What you know walking in
Membership tune-up. The customer is a member. Annual water heater service with a flush, relief valve test, and burner check. 50-gallon gas tank in the garage, about 6 years old. No complaints reported.
- 50-gallon atmospheric gas water heater, 6 yrs
- Thermal expansion tank, 6 yrs
What you found
- The anode rod is used up. Most of it is bare steel wire. Without it, the tank starts to rust from the inside.
- There are no leaks and no rust at the base or the fittings, and the burner and draft are good. The tank is in good shape for its age.
- The flush brought out a normal amount of sediment for the hard water here.
- The expansion tank holds air. Its pressure was set to match the house.
